A profile of Elinor McCartney, Granimac-art.com online art galleryBorn ......Stirling a daughter of the rock Grew up......Grangemouth , Bonnybridge, Glasgow (Springburn) Schools..... Grangemouth Zetland school, Bonnybridge, Keppochhill, Possil Senior Secondary - where the art teacher pushed me towards Art School (Been there done that ) I decided on the technical side of drawing as opposed to nursing ( which was the family choice ). I had done first aid training with ST Andrews Ambulance, cojoined with British Railways (I enjoyed that and had even won prizes ) Art courses were never edifying, some said I didn't have enough discipline, others said I had too much, but eventually at Ayr Art Circle I found friends of equal passion and began to soak up information and guidance re Portrait, still life and plein air landscape from John Filson, Barbara Little, Alec Donnelly, Miss Tressider and Margaret Law. We had speakers of distinction who demonstrated amongst other things that rules were made to be broken. When my husband had to retire I did too, we both retired on the 11th of September and we were in Tighnabruich by the 14th Sept. My dream was to paint all day .......I did too at first, then someone painted my art hut with a preservative and I couldn't breath there ..now it is a conservator.....for paper easels and all sorts. I was a founding member of the art club here and Tighnabruaich has always been the centre of an art community . Jean and Jesse Marshall arriving to open a gallery in the village was also a welcome boost, giving us not only a venue for club meetings but a window for our work... I'm hoping this might kindle a spark again for the big stuff, although framing is a stumbling block. ©2008 Granimac-art.com
